Nick Norrman - Cinematographer - Los Angeles
My Story
From a young age, I’ve always immersed myself in various art forms, and over time, I realized that filmmaking was the perfect platform to blend all of my creative passions into one powerful medium. After leaving my service industry job one summer to tour with my band, I decided to dive into freelancing as a cinematographer and videographer. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working on a wide variety of projects, including five feature-length narrative films, dozens of short films, music videos, documentaries, & commercials.
Cinematography is my true passion. There’s nothing more fulfilling than starting with complete darkness and using light as my brush to craft images that resonate with both style and emotion. I draw a lot of inspiration from 70s and 80s horror and exploitation films, especially those with psychedelic and avant-garde elements. The bold, atmospheric lighting of Dario Argento, the haunting compositions of John Carpenter, and the sleek, moody visuals of Michael Mann have all profoundly influenced my work. What excites me most about those films is how filmmakers used practical effects, miniatures, and raw creativity to tell their stories—long before digital technology became the norm.
In today’s world, where technology often overshadows authentic filmmaking, I strive to keep that spirit alive by creating visuals that feel tangible, real, and emotionally captivating. I believe that filmmaking is a form of magic, and my goal is to make films that evoke the same sense of wonder and excitement as the classics that inspired me.
